The competition was able to start only a few rounds of trials due to wind conditions, while the opening ceremony filled the streets of the town with atmosphere.
The Wind&Waves Festival experienced this Friday a spectacular opening day in El Médano, where hundreds of people welcomed the best windsurfers in the world at the beginning of a new edition of the Open, Junior and Masters of the World Championship. PWA/WWT.
The most emotional moment of the day came with the traditional opening ceremony, in which the athletes paraded with the flags of their respective countries from the beach of El Cabezo to the beach of El Médano. The tour turned the streets of the town into an authentic sports festival, with neighbors and visitors accompanying and applauding the riders who will compete in the next few days in one of the most prestigious stages of the international circuit.

In the sports section, the weather conditions only allowed a few rounds of trials to be played from noon. These qualifying sleeves, which will decide which athletes access the main competition, could be partially held before the wind forced the day to end. If the conditions accompany, the action will resume this Saturday at El Cabezo beach.
The day also marked the premiere of the festival’s musical program. The main stage hosted Jela’s live performance, followed by DJ Session by Javadub, thus inaugurating an agenda of concerts and performances that will accompany the event throughout the week and will once again turn the Médano into a meeting point for residents and visitors.
The Médano Wind&Waves Festival is organized by Blue Light Events and has the support of institutions such as the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canary Islands Latitude of Life brand; the Cabildo of Tenerife, through his brand Tenerife arouses emotions; and the Municipality of Granadilla de Abona.
