The Master, Grand Master, Pro Junior Girls and Junior Girls categories brought the PWA/WWT competition programme to a close with an intense day at El Cabezo
The Wind&Waves Festival completed the PWA/WWT Open, Junior and Masters World Championship event this Thursday with the final outstanding finals taking place at El Cabezo Beach. Following Wednesday’s victories for Marc Paré and Sarah-Quita Offringa in the Open categories, the day decided the winners in Master, Grand Master, Pro Junior Girls (U-21) and Junior Girls (U-18).
The Pro Junior Girls category once again had a clear standout performer. Belgium’s Sol Degrieck, one of the sensations of the event, dominated from start to finish, winning all three finals with authority. She left Turkey’s Helena Derya Lale with no opportunity to challenge for the win, with the Turkish rider finishing runner-up after being beaten by the Belgian in every final.
The Junior Girls category delivered a much tighter contest. Japan’s Natsuki Wakasa won the first two finals and appeared to be on course for victory, but a fourth-place finish in the third and decisive final completely changed the outcome. Germany’s Trine Gobisch, with two second-place finishes and a win in the final, came from behind to claim victory at El Cabezo. The Netherlands’ Bobbi-Lynn De Jong completed the podium in third, while Japan’s Fumi Akita finished fourth.
In the Master category, Great Britain’s Ben Proffitt once again demonstrated his outstanding level in the waters of El Médano, repeating the victory he achieved in 2024. After a consistently strong day, Proffitt won the decisive final with authority to claim another victory. Jochen Solz finished second, followed by Guillermo Barreiro in third and Sandro Dálessio in fourth.
Dálessio was also a key figure in the Grand Master category, reaching another final on the same day. However, the Italian had to settle for second place after being beaten by Michael Friedl, who took the win. Alessandro Mazzetti finished third, while Per Schmitz took fourth place.
With the completion of the PWA/WWT World Championship event programme, the Wind&Waves Festival now moves into a new phase. From this Friday onwards, the spotlight will turn to Foil, with a weekend combining public demonstrations and an unofficial competition that will bring the sporting programme of this year’s festival to a close. The event will offer spectators the chance to discover one of the fastest-growing disciplines in wind sports and enjoy another spectacular display on the waters of El Cabezo.
El Médano Wind&Waves Festival is organized by Blue Light Events and supported by institutions including the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Islas Canarias Latitud de Vida brand; the Tenerife Island Council, through its Tenerife Despierta Emociones brand; and the Granadilla de Abona Town Council.
