The Gran Canaria rider claims a commanding victory in the men’s category, while Kiefer Quintana delivers another outstanding performance after finishing runner-up at the World Championship event
The Wind&Waves Festival hosted another day of competition this Friday with the Spanish Windsurfing Championship taking place at El Cabezo Beach. The event brought together some of Spain’s leading riders and saw Liam Dunkerbeck and Alexia Kiefer Quintana claim the victories in the Open categories, while the Junior, U-15 and Masters divisions were also decided.
In the men’s category, Liam Dunkerbeck was the clear standout of the day. The Gran Canaria rider took the win with a score of 20.62 points, ahead of Marino Gil (17.37), Alessio Luca Stillrich (14.17) and Moritz Mauch (10.78). Dunkerbeck dominated from the opening heat, winning every round on his way to victory and confirming the strong form he has shown throughout the week of competition at El Cabezo.
The women’s category also had a strong Canarian presence. Alexia Kiefer Quintana claimed the win with 14.25 points, finishing ahead of local rider María Morales (13.37), Blanca Alabau (11.50) and Laia Sol (4.12).
The Gran Canaria rider capped off an outstanding week at El Cabezo after finishing runner-up in the World Championship event earlier in the festival. Kiefer Quintana once again demonstrated her excellent form against some of Spain’s leading female riders.
In the Junior category, Javier Escribano took the event victory with 21.28 points, ahead of Yannik Kolb (13.75) and Nicolás Gensch (9.01).
In the U-15 division, Dennis Kolb claimed the win with an impressive score of 23.88 points, finishing ahead of Daniel Dunkerbeck (8.37) and Eric Kolb (7.87).
Finally, Josep Pons took the victory in the Masters category with 14.88 points, overcoming Jorge Cabrera (12.06), Jochen Stolz (9.17) and Ismaelle De Nuzzo (5.12) in the final.
With the Spanish Windsurfing Championship event now completed, the official competition programme of the Wind&Waves Festival 2026 has come to an end. The festival itself, however, continues throughout the weekend, with Foil Drive taking centre stage. Saturday and Sunday will feature public demonstrations and an unofficial competition, alongside the final cultural, musical and gastronomic activities of the festival.
El Médano Wind&Waves Festival, organized by Blue Light Events, is supported by institutions including the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Islas Canarias Latitud de Vida brand; the Tenerife Island Council, through its Tenerife Despierta Emociones brand; and the Granadilla de Abona Town Council.
